Daily Attacks Without End

Union for Justice: More Than 110 Settler Attacks in the West Bank During the Past Month

2/7/2025 – Union for Justice

The information and data available to the Union for Justice indicate that the assaults and attacks carried out by settlers against Palestinian citizens and property in the West Bank have reached dangerous and unprecedented levels.

According to the Union for Justice, these (daily and intensive) attacks numbered more than 110 incidents during June.

The organization’s monitoring shows that Ramallah suffered the largest share of these attacks, with around 30 assaults carried out by settlers against villages and towns in the governorate. It was followed by Nablus with 22 attacks, then Hebron with a similar number, and finally Jericho and the northern Jordan Valley with 15 attacks.

The organization added: “It is noticeable that settler assaults have become more deadly. During June, three Palestinians were martyred in the town of Kafr Malik near Ramallah while attempting to confront a settler attack, and a fourth citizen was shot dead by settlers in the town of Surif, Hebron district.”

Settler assaults varied between attacking Palestinians directly, physically assaulting them, firing live ammunition at them, burning homes, vehicles, and public institutions, vandalizing property, stealing belongings and livestock, establishing new settlement outposts, and blocking Palestinian roads with barriers, concrete blocks, and iron gates.

The Union for Justice documented that in June settlers cut down and destroyed more than 650 trees, including olive, almond, and citrus trees, in addition to burning thousands of dunums planted with wheat, barley, and vetch.

By the end of 2024, the number of settlers in the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem, had exceeded 770,000 settlers, distributed across 180 settlements and 256 outposts, of which 138 outposts are classified as agricultural or pastoral. Israeli settlement expansion is concentrated mainly in the central and southern West Bank.

Several months ago, the Israeli government approved the return of settlers to four settlements in Jenin Governorate that had been evacuated under the 2005 disengagement plan. In May 2025, the government approved the construction of 22 new settlements in the West Bank—the largest expansion in decades.

Settler Attacks and Army Protection

The organization affirms that the majority of these assaults and attacks occurred in the presence of the Israeli army, which has increasingly provided protection and support to settlers during their assaults on Palestinian villages and towns. This comes in addition to the political, financial, and legal support settlers receive from the Israeli government, dominated by the far-right.

The organization points out that any Palestinian who tries to defend himself and his family—using only simple means—faces arrest and prosecution by the Israeli army and the Shin Bet security service.

At times, these assaults take on an individual character, but in many cases they are far more organized, particularly after settlers began to resemble a military formation affiliated with the Israeli army, receiving military training and carrying weapons openly.

Scattered Attacks, One Goal

The Union for Justice stresses that these assaults and attacks by settlers cannot be dismissed as isolated or exceptional incidents, but rather as part of and a continuation of the Israeli government’s plans and strategic vision for the future and shape of the West Bank, aiming to make it an unlivable environment for Palestinian residents.

The Israeli government seeks to complete its plans to annex the West Bank, fragment it with settlements and connecting roads, and turn it into isolated cantons and enclaves—devoid of any political framework that might evolve into the nucleus of a Palestinian state.
