Union for Justice: 16 Prisoners Martyred in Israeli Prisons in Just the Past 5 Months
3/9/2025 – Union for Justice Organization
The Union for Justice Organization stated that 16 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons were announced dead in the past five months alone, as a result of severe torture, deliberate medical neglect, and malnutrition.
The organization noted that the total number of Palestinian prisoners who have died in Israeli prisons has risen to 77 since October 7, 2023, bringing the total number of documented martyrs from the prisoners’ movement since 1967 to 314.
According to official data issued by human rights organizations, the number of bodies of deceased prisoners withheld by Israel has reached 85, including 74 since the beginning of the war.
The report highlights that the Israeli occupation authorities are committing the crime of enforced disappearance against dozens of Palestinians who were arrested either from within Gaza or from settlements near the Strip. Families are left without any information about the fate of their loved ones—whether they are prisoners or martyrs—due to the scarcity of information and the occupation’s refusal to provide the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) with any details about them.
The Union for Justice emphasized that since the beginning of the war, Israeli prisons have turned into centers for field executions, brutal torture, sexual assaults, and electric shocks, housing tens of thousands of starved and ill prisoners who suffer from deliberate medical neglect and psychological humiliation.
It also pointed out that the occupation authorities have deliberately banned the entry of personal hygiene supplies to the prisoners, which has led to the spread of serious skin diseases, most notably scabies, a condition that causes severe skin ulcers and scars that last for months.
The Sde Teiman Prison, located on a military base in the Negev desert, has become a symbol of the grave and horrific violations committed by the occupation authorities against Gaza detainees, to the extent that it is now commonly referred to as “Israel’s Guantanamo.”
The Union for Justice Organization stressed that the Israeli Prison Service, along with the Shin Bet (Shabak) and intelligence agencies, believe themselves immune from legal accountability and international prosecution, especially since the Israeli authorities have prohibited the Red Cross from visiting Palestinian prisoners since October 7, 2023.
Recently, the President of the Israeli Supreme Court, Justice Yitzhak Amit, criticized both National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and the Prison Service for banning Red Cross representatives from visiting Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons.
Several videos have surfaced showing Ben-Gvir personally supervising and monitoring Israeli suppression forces as they storm prisoners’ cells, humiliate detainees, and force them to sit in degrading positions, with dogs standing over them.
Ben-Gvir is reportedly pushing for legislation that would allow Israeli courts to impose the death penalty on Palestinian prisoners held by the occupation authorities.
